Supreme Court Slams Jharkhand for Delay in Teacher Recruitment, Summons Top Officials

New Delhi – The Supreme Court has strongly criticized the Jharkhand government and its recruitment body over the prolonged delay in announcing results for 26,001 Assistant Acharya (teacher) positions.

In a stern warning issued on Monday, the court directed that if the results for all subjects and categories are not declared by August 14, senior officials including the Chief Secretary, JSSC Secretary, Education Secretary, and Deputy Education Secretary must appear before the court on August 18.

This isn’t the first time the apex court has had to intervene. In an earlier hearing, it had instructed the state to complete the recruitment process within a month and submit a compliance report. The court had also warned of contempt proceedings if the order was not followed.

During the latest hearing, petitioners’ lawyers Gopal Sankaranarayanan and Amritansh Vats pointed out major flaws in the process. They revealed that for Mathematics and Science (Classes 6–8), only 1,661 results have been published out of 5,008 posts, even though 2,734 candidates were called for document verification.

Many qualified candidates were excluded from verification without explanation, and Social Science results for Classes 6–8 remain pending. Similarly, results for Assistant Acharya posts for Classes 1–5 are still not declared.

The Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) had started the recruitment drive in 2023, with exams conducted through late 2023 and early 2024. However, with no complete result timeline in sight, candidates are growing increasingly frustrated.

What further shocked the Supreme Court was a claim made in Jharkhand High Court, where JSSC officials allegedly said the full results would only be declared by September 2025—a timeline the apex court found completely unacceptable.
