Shubhangi Atre Labels Gender Divide in TV and Films as ‘Outdated Thinking’

Mumbai – Actress Shubhangi Atre, widely recognized for her role in Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain, has challenged the traditional notion that television is primarily for women and films cater to male actors.

In an exclusive chat with IANS, Shubhangi called this belief outdated, emphasizing how the entertainment industry is evolving. She cited films like Queen and Mary Kom as proof that strong, female-led narratives can thrive across mediums. “Not at all. That’s an outdated mindset,” she said. “Today, we see so many powerful women-centric films. Ultimately, it’s all about good content. Whether it’s television, cinema, or music—the story and performance are what truly matter.”

Speaking candidly about the intense demands of working in television, Shubhangi acknowledged the long, exhausting hours that daily soaps require. Comparing TV and film shoots, she remarked, “TV usually means longer working hours. I have to be back on set tomorrow, so I’m a bit tired right now,” she added with a laugh.

Discussing her latest music video Kaahe Saiyaan, Shubhangi revealed her emotional connection with the piece. “The song is based on Raag Jog and carries the mood of Karun Ras. The moment I heard it, I was deeply touched. The visuals came to me instantly—I wanted to tell a story through the music, not just offer a song, but a complete visual experience.”

With Kaahe Saiyaan, Shubhangi has also stepped into production for the first time. She shared that the decision came from a heartfelt wish to give back to the industry that made her career. “I’ve always felt the urge to do something meaningful for this field that has given me so much. Acting roles will come and go, but I often wondered—what am I really contributing in return? This project is a small step in that direction.”
