Hemant Soren’s Raksha Bandhan Message Puts Women’s Empowerment at the Centre

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren extended his greetings to the people of the state on Raksha Bandhan, using the occasion to underline that the spirit of the festival should go beyond the traditional bond between brothers and sisters and also reflect society’s responsibility towards women.

In a message posted on X, Soren acknowledged the contribution of Jharkhand’s mothers and sisters, saying they have continued to support their families through difficult circumstances while also making an important contribution to the state’s development and the country’s progress.

The Chief Minister said a woman’s education and progress can have a much wider impact. When women get opportunities to learn, work and become financially independent, it strengthens not only their own lives but also their families and communities.

Soren also highlighted a number of government initiatives aimed at supporting women and girls, including the Maiya Samman Yojana, Palash, the Savitribai Phule Kishori Samridhi Yojana and the Phulo Jhano Ashirwad Abhiyan. He said such programmes are intended to provide women with greater economic and social support.

He added that the government wants mothers and sisters to have better opportunities to pursue their aspirations, achieve financial independence and move ahead in life with dignity.

In his Raksha Bandhan message, Soren also put forward a broader social commitment — ensuring education for daughters, creating opportunities for sisters to progress and strengthening the position of mothers. He said the real strength of a family and society depends on the empowerment of its women.

The Chief Minister’s message gave a wider meaning to the festival, linking the traditional idea of protection with education, opportunity, dignity and self-reliance for women.

Soren concluded by extending his heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all residents of Jharkhand on Raksha Bandhan and conveyed his traditional greeting of ‘Johar’.
