Storms Bring Sudden Relief to Jharkhand, Unsettled Weather Likely to Continue

Jamshedpur: After days of intense heat, parts of Jharkhand finally got a breather as sudden rain, hail, and thunderstorms swept across the region since Wednesday evening, leading to a noticeable drop in temperatures.

Several areas recorded a fall of around 4–5°C, as strong winds and lightning brought an abrupt change in the weather. In and around Jamshedpur, the evening turned turbulent with heavy rain, thunderclaps, and hailstones hitting multiple localities, briefly disrupting normal life.

Residents welcomed the relief but were caught off guard by the intensity. “The temperature dropped very quickly after the rain—it finally feels comfortable after days of heat,” said a Bistupur resident. Another person from Adityapur added, “The hail was unexpected. The winds were strong, and the lightning made it quite scary for some time.”

According to the Meteorological Department, this spell is not over yet. Weather conditions are expected to remain unstable in the coming days. On April 30, isolated parts of eastern and adjoining central Jharkhand may witness thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds of 50–60 kmph, and even hail.

From May 1 to May 5, similar weather activity is likely across most parts of the state, with wind speeds ranging between 40–50 kmph. However, north-western regions may experience slightly milder conditions on May 2 and 3.

Authorities have advised residents to remain alert—avoid open areas during lightning strikes and stay indoors during periods of intense weather.
