Mumbai: Richa Chadha has rekindled her passion for dance, sharing that she resumed training around six to seven months after childbirth. The actress-producer recently travelled to Goa to attend a five-day intensive belly dancing course, aiming to deepen her understanding of the art form.
Speaking about her journey, Richa said she got in touch with her instructor, Dipika Vijay, whom she considers an excellent teacher. What began as a therapeutic activity during her postpartum phase gradually evolved into a serious personal interest.
“What started as an exploration into belly dance as therapy during my postpartum phase has now grown into a strong parallel passion,” she said, adding that after a gap of a few years, she felt the need to reconnect with dance in a more committed way.
She clarified that the course is not tied to any professional project. “This isn’t for a role or performance—it’s something I’m doing for myself, to learn, grow, and fall in love with the form all over again,” she added.
A few years ago, while preparing for a special dance number, Richa trained in tribal belly dancing under internationally renowned expert Olga Meos in Kazakhstan. Even during the lockdown, she continued practising through online sessions to stay connected with dance. She is also trained in Kathak.
On the work front, Richa was last seen in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The series, set in Lahore’s historic red-light district, explores the lives of courtesans during the Indian independence movement and their personal and political struggles.
