Sarna Tribals performed rituals to invoke Nature God on the eve of ‘Sarhul’ Festival in Ranchi

Ranchi: Hundreds of Tribals were on Tuesday seen in traditional attire playing with traditional drum ‘Mandar’, worship ‘Saal’ Tree and carrying urn on their head during ‘Kalash Yatra’ during a ritual to invoke nature on the eve of Festival of Nature ‘Sarhul’ Puja Festival at an ‘Akhra’ in Ranchi.

At the same time, a tribal priest or ‘Pahan’ Jaglal Pahan displayed crab forecasting rain for annual production of crops for good farming near ‘Saal’ Tree near Hatma in Ranchi.

Sarhul is celebrated during the spring season and the Saal trees get new flowers on their branches.

It is a worship of the village deity who is considered to be the protector of the tribes. 

Tribals, both male and female, sing and dance a lot when the new flowers appear.

The deities are worshiped with saal flowers. 

Tribals sing and dance and take part in procession during ‘Sarhul’ Puja Festival.
