Ranchi/Palamu- Armed men opened fire at a road construction site on National Highway-39 in Palamu district, Jharkhand, early Friday, injuring one labourer.
The shooting took place around 5:30 a.m. at Singra village, within Sadar police station limits. Police said the attackers came on a motorcycle and fired at labourers sleeping in tents.
Vikram Singh from Rajderwa village, Satbarwa, was hit by a bullet in his back and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
Police suspect the attack is linked to extortion, though the involvement of criminal gangs or extremists is yet to be confirmed. Bullet shells were recovered from the scene, and CCTV footage is under review.
Attacks on infrastructure projects in Jharkhand have increased, with more than 40 incidents reported in the last three years, including arson and shootings at coal and road project sites.
