Chhath Mahaparv to commence from Monday, water bodies yet to be completely cleaned

Ranchi: The four-day-long auspicious festival of Chhath Mahaparv will commence from Monday with the ritual of Nahai-Khai. For the festival, the Chhath Ghats are being prepared but in the capital dilemma, over-performing Chhath at Dhurwa Dam is yet to be over as the administration is yet to take a decision over the matter to allow devotees to perform Chhath at the dam due to high water levels.

The Sadar SDO and City SP have given their report to the senior officials over the matter. Now the final call will be taken by Ranchi DC and SSP to allow permission to the people to perform Chhath at Dhurwa Dam. Meanwhile water level across all the water bodies and ponds in the capital barring Harmu river has increased and if proper barricading will not be done people might face issues performing the Arghya.

Town Commissioner Mukesh Kumar said that by Tuesday cleaning work at the Chhath Ghats and roads leading to the venues will be cleaned and arrangements of lighting will be also made. However, in wake of Corona people should remain away from the crowd and if possible people should perform the rituals inside their homes or localities. He said that corporation will also set up artificial water ponds in localities. A look at major ponds revealed water level has increased at Kanke Dam also but iron barricades have been put up while it will not be possible to perform the ritual at Harmu river due to foul smell and filth.
