RANCHI : A delegation of the Vishva Hindu Parishad submitted a memorandum to Santosh Kumar Gangwar, urging strict implementation of the ‘Jharkhand Bovine Animal Slaughter Prohibition Act, 2005’ ahead of Bakrid (Eid-ul-Azha).
The delegation expressed concern that during the festival, anti-social elements and cattle smugglers could allegedly engage in large-scale illegal transportation and slaughter of prohibited bovine animals, including cows, bulls, calves, and camels, across different districts of Jharkhand. According to the memorandum, such activities would amount to a serious violation of the state law, which completely prohibits the slaughter, sale of meat, and transportation of bovine animals in Jharkhand and categorizes the offence as non-bailable.
The VHP delegation also warned that any such illegal activities during the festival could adversely affect communal harmony, peace, and law and order in the state.
The organization appealed to the Governor to direct authorities to intensify police patrolling in sensitive areas, major intersections, marketplaces, and interstate border checkposts. It also sought strict vehicle checking to prevent illegal cattle transportation, closure of illegal slaughterhouses, and immediate registration of FIRs against those found involved in cattle smuggling or slaughter in violation of the law.
The delegation included VHP regional minister Dr Birendra Sahu, state vice-president Sunil Gupta, state minister Mithileshwar Mishra, Bajrang Dal state convenor Ranganath Mahto, and metropolitan president Kailash Kesari.
