7-member SIT to probe land frauds

Ranchi: Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Gupta has set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe fraudulent land dealings in Ranchi. This move comes in response to a series of fake land document cases and illegal land occupations.

The SIT will focus on investigating illegal land occupations, including those involving forged documents or coercion. It will review all significant criminal cases related to land in Ranchi district and examine whether appropriate legal action has been taken against fraud perpetrators or if innocent individuals have been wrongly implicated.

In addition to cases where criminal charges have already been filed, the SIT will also initiate investigations into land-related matters lacking formal criminal cases. The special team will ensure that all necessary actions are taken against those involved in land fraud, including government and non-government employees.

The SIT will collect comprehensive information from the Ranchi police on fake land transfers and the individuals involved. They will also compile a list of those who used force to seize land, including their property details. If any police officers, including Station House Officers (SHOs), are found complicit in land grabbing, the SIT will identify them and recommend appropriate actions.

The SIT comprises seven IPS officers, led by CID IG Sudarshan Mandal. The team includes JAP DIG Mayur Patel, Special Branch DIG Karthik S, CID DIG Sandhya Rani Mehta, ATS SP Rishabh Kumar Jha, CID SP Anuranjan Kispotta, and CID ASP Deepak Kumar.
