24-member Indian women’s Hockey team announced, Jharkhand’s Salima Tete becomes captain for HIF Pro League

Ranchi: Hockey India on Thursday announced the 24-member Indian women’s hockey team for the FIH Pro League, which will participate in the Belgium and England leg. Salima Tete of Simdega, Jharkhand will command the team in the tournament. Salima was recently awarded the prestigious Hockey India Balbir Singh Senior Award for Player of the Year 2023.

The vice-captain of the team is Navneet Kaur. Four players from Jharkhand have been selected in the Indian team. Which includes Nikki Pradhan, Salima Tete, Sangeeta Kumar and Deepika Soreng. The Belgian stage will start on 22 May and end on 26 May.

Whereas the England phase will start from June 1 and continue till June 9. India will play Argentina, Belgium, Spain, Great Britain and Germany twice each in both the legs, starting their campaign against Argentina on May 22. India is currently in sixth place with eight points from eight matches.

Salima made her debut in the national team in 2017 against Belarus. India won the silver medal in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games under the captaincy of Salima. In 2021, she was part of the Indian Olympic team.
