Women’s leadership on Climate Change is crucial in Jharkhand, say expert

Ranchi : Interlinkages between Gender and Climate Change discussed at a workshop organised by Asar Social Impact Advisor and CINI in Ranchi on Wednesday.

70 Participants including Government representatives, organisations and individuals working on climate change and allied areas such as health, nutrition and education, Journalists, researchers, and members of women self help group.

SHG members showcased products of Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society.

IAS, Secretary Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation Manish Ranjan said, “Increased Health Risks, access to water and sanitation and women’s limited participation in decision making.”

MGNREGA Secreatry Rajeshwari B said, “Sensitive Utilisation of existing resources and right execution of policies is the need of women.”

Gender Transformative Climate Framework was also discussed during the meeting.

Climate Change, Socio – Economic Status of Communities, migration trends and overall impact of Tribal young Girls were in agenda to make policies regarding that of Jharkhand Government.

Geo-Scientist Dr. Nitish Priyadarshi said, “Climate Change exacerbates vulnerabilities of marginalised women and possible ways of overcoming these challenges.”

Journalist Joydeep Deogharia discussed the topic “Domestic violence on women and their problems and impact on society.”
