Uproar on the last day of the budget session over Sahibganj ship accident

Ranchi: There was a ruckus inside the Assembly over the ship accident which took place between Sahibganj- Manihari Ferry Ghat. BJP MLAs created an uproar as soon as the proceedings of the House began on Friday, the last day of the budget session. The government was asked to tell the house how many people were drowned. A demand was made to register a case against the DC, SP of Sahibganj.

BJP leader Babulal Marandi said that only last year he had written a letter to the Chief Minister in this matter but no action was taken. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Alamgir Aalam said that he will answer after collecting necessary information and assured the house that action will be taken against the guilty officers.

However, his response did not satisfy the BJP MLAs who reached in the well of the house and indulged in raising slogans after which the proceedings of the House were adjourned till 12 noon. BJP’s Chief Whip Biranchi Narayan raised this matter as soon as the proceedings of the House started for the day. He said that illegal stone chips from Sahibganj are landed at the illegal ghat in Bihar’s Manihari. He demanded immediate dismissal of the DC and SP of Sahibganj.

Former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi said that in the year 2021 itself, he had written a letter to the Chief Ministers of Bihar and Jharkhand regarding black marketing of stone chips, but no action was taken. He said that this illegal business is going on for a long time. He alleged that this illegal business is happening under the supervision of DC and SP. He demanded action against the guilty officer as well as demanded a CBI inquiry into the entire matter.

JMM MLA Lobin Hembrem said that stone was being illegally carried on the ship which has been involved in the accident. He said that stone goes from his own assembly constituency. He has been continuously raising this matter in the House. He said that overloaded trucks go from the ferry ghat and there is loss of revenue and there should be immediate investigation and action should be taken against the culprits.

MLA Anant Ojha said that the Manihari Sahibganj ferry service runs on the stretch. However Illegal business is done in the dark of night. In response, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister said that there is a ferry ghat in Sahibganj. On which Bihar has the right for two years and Jharkhand for two years and from this place, both passenger and cargo carriers run. He said that the incident is unfortunate and the government is taking all the information. However, he claimed that there is no information about illegal mining and assured the house to take action after taking information. However, after the minister’s reply, the members of the opposition came to the well and started creating a ruckus.

The speaker repeatedly urged the MLAs to get back to their seats but the uproar continued. Later, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings of the House. On the resumption of the House Minister Alamgir Aalam said that no casualty has been reported so far.
