Student died by drowning in BSL’s swimming pool, HC said – give compensation of Rs 10 lakh

Ranchi: Jharkhand High Court has ordered BCL (Bokaro Steel Limited) to pay a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family in the case of the death of a student in the company’s swimming pool. In fact, in the year 2019, a student of a private school in Bokaro died by drowning in the swimming pool of BSL.

After the incident, the family members of the youth had alleged that the necessary standards for operating the swimming pool were not maintained nor were life jackets kept near the swimming pool. After which the family members of the deceased had first lodged an FIR in Bokaro. After this, the student’s family filed a criminal writ in the High Court. But the single bench rejected it.

After this, the deceased’s father Arvind Kumar Sinha filed an LPA (Latest Patent Appeal) in the High Court challenging the order of the single bench. On which the hearing was held in the bench of High Court Judge Justice S Chandrashekhar and Justice Anubha Rawat Chaudhary. Advocate Kumar Harsh argued on behalf of the applicant.
