Santhal artists showcase skill at Tribal Mahotsav

Ranchi: The Jharkhand Tribal Mahotsav 2024 is showcasing an array of traditional art forms, including Sohrai art and Jado Patiya art, a folk painting style from Santhal Pargana.

At the festival, Santhal Pargana artists are prominently displaying their Jado Patiya paintings. This traditional art form, along with Sohrai art, is being featured in a special workshop-cum-exhibition, where eight prominent Jadopatiya painters are participating.

Sohrai art, which has been integral to Jharkhandi culture for centuries, emphasizes the connection between humans and nature. The festival underscores this connection, with artists like Alka Imam, Belangini Robert Mariam, Usha Panna and Pramila Kiran Lakra from Hazaribagh using their art to convey messages about the importance of nature.

In tribal regions, during the Sohrai festival, traditional Dudhi Mati decorations highlight the artistic skills of local women, adding to the cultural significance of the event.

Notable figures in Jado Patiya art, including National Fellowship Awardees Neelam Neerad, Arpita Raj Neerad, Nitai Chitrakar, Ganpati Chitrakar, Dashrath Chitrakar, Dayanand Chitrakar, and Jiyaram Chitrakar, are being honoured for their contributions.

Dr RK Neerad, discoverer of Jado Patiya painting, is providing technical insights and guidance to workshop participants, enhancing their understanding of this traditional art form.
