Mumbai- Actress Saiyami Kher has voiced serious concern over Mumbai’s deteriorating air quality, calling on authorities to take responsibility for the city’s worsening pollution levels.
On Tuesday, the actress shared a photo of herself wearing a face mask on Instagram, accompanied by a heartfelt note reflecting on how air pollution has altered her daily life. Recalling her long-standing love for running, she wrote that a decade ago she would start her mornings on Carter Road, drawn by the ocean breeze that made her fall in love with both the city and the sport.
Lamenting the current situation, she said wearing a mask before heading out for a run now feels like a return to pandemic days — except this time, it is not a virus but the air itself that poses a threat. She expressed disbelief that something as essential as clean air has become a luxury.
Despite taking precautions such as keeping doors and windows shut, using an air purifier, and shifting her runs indoors to a treadmill, Saiyami said it still does not feel sufficient. Running, she shared, has always been her source of clarity and healing, but pollution is slowly undoing the years of discipline and dedication she has invested in her fitness.
Stressing that air pollution is no longer a seasonal issue and should not be politicised, the actress noted that many citizens are silently mourning the loss of a city they once loved. Ending her note on a pointed question, she asked whether expecting basic accountability from those in charge is really too much to ask for.
