Ranchi Mayor stages dharna outside RMC office protesting against increase in water tax

Ranchi: Mayor Asha Lakra sat on a dharna in front of her own office on Tuesday protesting against the decision to increase the water tax. She got the support of a dozen councillors along with the deputy mayor. She accused the state government of doing dictatorship and exploiting the public.

She said that RMC is with the people of Ranchi in the matter of water tax. The Mayor said that the agenda has been passed forcibly on the behest of the government whereas this agenda has been removed twice from the meeting of the corporation. She said that the new rate has been increased by one and a half times the old rate and the rate of connection has also been increased. Similarly, there has been an increase of 42 times in rate industrial connections.

Councillor Arun Jha who was involved in the dharna said that the corporation wants to make the city clean and beautiful on the basis of sticks, while even after several correspondences, not a single charge was increased in the year. He said that the system should be improved to make the city clean. Another Councillor said that the proposal to increase the water tax was not passed twice in the board meeting. Despite this, it has been implemented by the corporation.
