Providing pure drinking water to every household is priority for state government: Hemant Soren

Ranchi: A meeting to review the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission (Har Ghar Nal-Jal Yojana) and the Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin, being run in the state, was held today in the Jharkhand Mantralaya auditorium under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Hemant Soren in which Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat was also present.

In the meeting, the Chief Minister said that till the formation of the present state government, only 3.45 lakh (05 per cent) houses in Jharkhand were getting tap water. In the last 3 years of the government, 14.12 lakh families have been covered under Har Ghar Nal Se Jal. That is, till now about 17.57 lakh (28.73 percent) rural families of the state are being provided tap water.

The Chief Minister said that 630 villages, 105 gram panchayats and one block of Jharkhand state have been covered 100 percent with tap water in every house. He said that most of the solar energy-based water supply schemes are being implemented in the state of Jharkhand. He said that solar energy has been given prominence in the water supply scheme by the department due to which the state will save about 500 to 600 crore rupees and in the same way energy conservation can also be done.

The Chief Minister said that the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation is trying to develop climate-friendly water infrastructure in the state, in this regard several schemes and programs are being run by the department. Suitable arrangements are being made by making strategies for such areas where the problem of water quality has come to the fore.

Chief Minister directed all the senior officers present in the meeting and the Deputy Commissioners of various districts to connect through video conferencing to speed up the works of Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin). The Chief Minister said that all the officials have just heard the words of Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in the meeting and hoped all of you will bring improvement on the issues pointed out by them.

The Chief Minister said that the provision of pure drinking water to every household of the state and the vision of ODF under the Swachh Bharat Mission has to be fulfilled at all costs. There should not be any laxity in all these works and the works have to be completed within the stipulated time.

The Chief Minister said that by bringing changes in the working style all the officers should be in mission mode by coordinating with the officers of the Central Government for the speedy implementation of the scheme under Jal Jeevan Mission (Har Ghar Nal Jal) and Swachh Bharat Mission (ODF) under rural.

In the meeting, the Chief Minister assured Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat that by the year 2024, the work of Har Ghar Nal Jal Yojana (Har Ghar Nal Jal Yojana) would be completed under Jal Jeevan Mission. Hemant Soren told all the officials that providing clean drinking water to every family has been the priority of the state government.

The Chief Minister said that it would be a matter of misfortune if we are not able to provide pure drinking water to the people despite having so many experienced officials and experienced leaders. All of us should understand our responsibility very well and also fulfill the responsibility he said adding that his government is guaranteeing social security to everyone in Jharkhand. Full care has been taken to ensure that all sections including labourers, farmers and the needy do not have to bear any financial burden for pure drinking water.

The Chief Minister asked the Deputy Commissioners of the districts to ensure the availability of quality water at all schools and all Anganwadi centres and also asked to submit the availability report of quality water at all schools and Anganwadi centers to the state government soon.
