Ranchi: Adivasi organizations have strongly opposed the construction of a flyover ramp near the Sarna religious site at Siramtoli in Ranchi. In a press conference held on Tuesday under the banner of Raji Padha Sarna Prarthna Sabha at the Press Club, tribal leaders accused the state government of disrespecting their religious beliefs and adopting an anti-tribal approach.
They referred to the present administration as a “Diku government” and announced a peaceful protest at Raj Bhavan on May 14 to defend their faith and cultural identity.
Sanjay Pahan, the head of the Sabha, claimed that the flyover ramp construction is being carried out under heavy police presence and force. “It is a direct insult to the religious sentiments of the tribal community and the sanctity of the Sarna site,” he said.
Pahan criticized the government, stating, “Every Adivasi supported the formation of the Abua Sarkar (our government), but today, our voices are being ignored. Even tribal MLAs and ministers are not being heard.”
He added that the protest aims to protect the religious site, promote the identity of the Sarna faith, and preserve tribal cultural heritage. “Cultural events like the Sarhul procession have gained international recognition, yet the government is trying to suppress them,” he said.
Tribal leaders Ravi Tigga, Prabha Tirkey, Sushil Oraon, Suka Pahan, and hundreds of Sarna followers were present during the press conference.
