Pregnant Woman dies after administered saline instead of blood in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Aug 23: A pregnant woman died in a premier hospital of Ranchi on Wednesday as she was administered saline instead of blood.

Urmi Devi a resident of Gumla district was admitted in Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) for treatment. She was suffering from anaemia and low HB level. She died early Wednesday in the hospital.

“ She was administered saline instead of blood. She was suffering from anaemia and low Haemoglobin level.  We had to take her from emergency to Gynaecology department and she was not treated properly causing her death” said Husband of the woman.

Refuting the charges S.K Chaudhary, superintendent of the RIMS said “ she was provide blood around 5 am but she died after few minutes. She was suffering from anaemia and she had haemoglobin level to 4”.

This is not first incident on part of RIMS towards patrients. A woman patients left kidney was operated instead of right. An one year old boy died on August as his father failed to pay Rs 50 for treatment.
