Pahalgam terror attack not a coincidence, says JMM; questions internal security lapses

Ranchi: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya on Wednesday strongly condemned the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, calling it a “brutal and calculated assault” on India’s sovereignty. He alleged that such incidents often occur around politically sensitive times, suggesting they are not coincidences but deliberate acts to divert public attention.

Addressing a press conference, Bhattacharya said, “The nation is witnessing repeated attacks on its unity. The Pahalgam incident is not an isolated act of terror, but a planned provocation executed by enemies of the country. These attacks are frequently timed to distract from pressing national issues or diplomatic visits.”

He drew parallels to the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, raising questions over internal security lapses. “Just like in Pulwama, where one non-bulletproof bus was specifically targeted, in Pahalgam too, the attack happened at a time when the country was engaged in serious internal discourse. Why do these patterns keep repeating?”

Bhattacharya also questioned the absence of security personnel in a region that is soon to host the Amarnath Yatra base camp. “Thousands of tourists are visiting the valley right now, yet there seems to be no adequate security in place. This is not just a failure—this is negligence,” he said. He highlighted that the Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to begin from Pahalgam in a matter of days, and called for immediate deployment of forces to ensure safety.

He further emphasized that the nation must focus on identifying and acting against internal traitors who facilitate such attacks. “In Pulwama, there were reports of a DSP’s involvement. Years have passed, but there has been no trace of him. Who helped the terrorists in Pahalgam? There is always someone on the inside. Until we eliminate these traitors, we cannot defeat terrorism.”

Bhattacharya also spoke about the cultural harmony in Kashmir, pointing to the deep relationship between local Muslim communities and Hindu pilgrims. “Every Amarnath pilgrim is guided, fed, and protected by Kashmiri Muslims. The idea of India cannot be shaken by such acts. Our social fabric is too strong to be torn apart by terror.”

He urged the Union Government to take immediate, concrete steps, including intensified intelligence efforts and security reviews, especially in sensitive regions like Kashmir, the Northeast, and southern hill stations. “This is not a matter of routine governance anymore. This is a national crisis. Our internal security protocols need an overhaul.”
