New Delhi — Jharkhand celebrated its 25th Foundation Day on Saturday, with President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi sending warm greetings to the people and honouring the legacy of tribal icon Birsa Munda.
Created on November 15, 2000, after being carved out of Bihar, Jharkhand’s Foundation Day also coincides with Birsa Munda’s birth anniversary, making the day especially significant for the state’s tribal communities.
Sharing her message on X, President Murmu wrote, “My heartfelt congratulations on the Silver Jubilee of Jharkhand! The skilled and diligent people of this land of Lord Birsa Munda have elevated the pride of both the state and the nation.”
She highlighted Jharkhand’s abundant natural resources and its consistent contributions to national growth. She also praised the vibrant tribal culture, pointing out that the state’s folk arts enjoy admiration both in India and abroad. She commended the dedication and bravery of the people of Jharkhand in serving the country.
Wishing for the state’s continued progress, the President expressed hope that Jharkhand would keep advancing on its development journey and that its people’s future would remain bright.
Prime Minister Modi also extended his greetings, describing Jharkhand as a state rich in tribal heritage. “Heartfelt greetings to all residents of Jharkhand on the Foundation Day of this glorious state,” he wrote on X. He remarked that the land, associated with Birsa Munda, is steeped in tales of valour, struggle, and self-respect. He also conveyed his wishes for the continued prosperity of the people.
Earlier, the Prime Minister paid tribute to Birsa Munda on his 150th birth anniversary, marked nationally as Tribal Pride Day. Birsa Munda, born in 1875 in Ulihatu, emerged as a central figure in the tribal resistance against British rule and is revered as ‘Dharti Aaba’—the Father of the Earth.
Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar also greeted the people, noting that the state’s 25-year journey showcases its achievements across various sectors. He wished the residents happiness, prosperity, and continued development.
