‘No Longer Dependent on Loans’: Jharkhand Farmers Praise PM-KISAN Scheme

Sahibganj: Farmers in Jharkhand’s Sahibganj district have welcomed the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, saying the financial assistance has helped them manage farming expenses without relying on loans.

Launched by the Central government, the PM-KISAN scheme provides Rs 6,000 annually to eligible farmer families in three equal installments of Rs 2,000, directly transferred into Aadhaar-linked bank accounts.

Amit Singh, a farmer from Sahibganj in Jharkhand, said the scheme has brought meaningful change for cultivators.

“The government has introduced many programmes for farmers, but PM-KISAN is among the most helpful. Things have improved compared to earlier times. Both the central and state governments are bringing new initiatives for farmers, and we are happy that the Prime Minister thinks about our welfare,” he told IANS.

Singh explained that farmers often face financial stress due to crop losses caused by water shortages and other challenges. The assistance under the scheme, he said, helps them purchase essential inputs such as seeds, fertilisers and manure.

“I thank Narendra Modi for thinking about people at the grassroots level, especially farmers. I hope more schemes are introduced to further support cultivators,” he added.

Another beneficiary, Arun Thakur, said the funds received under the scheme play a crucial role in supporting agricultural activities.

“I receive Rs 2,000, and that money helps me carry out farming work. It is very useful, especially for buying seeds and fertilisers,” he said.

Thakur added that the scheme has reduced his dependence on borrowing.

“Now I don’t have to take loans for farming. The money comes directly into my bank account, and I can use it whenever required,” he said, expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister for the initiative.

Officials said a farmer-centric digital infrastructure ensures that benefits under the scheme reach eligible farmers across the country directly, eliminating middlemen and ensuring transparency in the process.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday released the 22nd installment of PM-KISAN during an event in Guwahati, Assam. On the occasion of PM Kisan Utsav Diwas, nearly Rs 19,000 crore was transferred to about 9.32 crore farmers nationwide.
