Ramgarh: The Government of Jharkhand, led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, has approved the settlement of 314 long-pending compensation cases related to land acquired for the Bhairwa Reservoir Project in Ramgarh district. The cases will be taken up during the National Lok Adalat scheduled for March 14.
The compensation dispute linked to the reservoir project had remained unresolved for several years. Thousands of raiyats had lost their land for the construction of the reservoir but had not received full compensation, leading to growing resentment among affected landholders. The pending payments had also slowed progress on the project.
The issue was taken up by Sanjeev Ambashth, the Government Pleader in Ramgarh, who raised the matter with the state authorities and sought relief for the affected families. Through case numbers 33/24 and 34/24 dated June 16, 2024, he forwarded the relevant files to the government requesting resolution of the pending claims.
Acting on the proposal, the state government granted approval to dispose of all 314 cases through the National Lok Adalat. The approval was issued under letter number 11/Bhu.A 01-03/2021 and memo number 989 dated February 25, 2026.
Officials said all necessary procedures related to the cases have already been completed by the Government Pleader’s office in Ramgarh. The Lok Adalat proceedings will determine how many of the cases are settled and the total compensation amount that will be paid to the raiyats.
The decision has brought renewed hope among the affected landholders, many of whom belong to tribal communities in the Ramgarh region. Several raiyats expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Hemant Soren for approving the settlement and also acknowledged the efforts of Sanjeev Ambashth in pushing the matter forward.
