Ranchi: Kalpana Soren, wife of former Chief Minister Hemant Soren, has taken oath as a member of the Legislative Assembly.
Kalpana Soren is the newly elected MLA from Gandey Assembly.
Kalpana Soren was sworn in in the Speaker’s chamber of Jharkhand Assembly.
Assembly Speaker Ravindra Nath Mahato administered the oath to Kalpana in his chamber in the Assembly.
During this, Chief Minister Champai Soren and Minister Satyanand Bhokta were present along with Kalpana Soren.
In the Gandey Assembly by-election held along with the Lok Sabha elections, Kalpana Soren had contested on JMM ticket as a joint candidate of India Alliance.
He defeated BJP candidate Dilip Verma.
Kalpana defeated Dilip Verma by more than 27 thousand votes.
JMM MLA Sarfaraz was MLA from Gandey. He had vacated this seat by resigning.
When ED was interrogating Hemant Soren, there was a fear that Hemant might be arrested.
In such a situation, there should be no turmoil within the state and the party and so that Kalpana can take over the reins of the post of Chief Minister, the post of Gandeya Assembly was vacated.
Gandeya is considered a safe seat for JMM.
That’s why only the Gandeya seat was vacated.
Elections on this seat were held along with the Lok Sabha elections.
After Hemant Soren went to jail, Kalpana Soren took charge of the Lok Sabha elections.
Under the leadership of Kalpana, JMM has won three seats in Jharkhand.
