Nation mourns the loss of ‘Dishom Guru’ Shibu Soren; leaders pay homage across party lines

New Delhi – Shibu Soren, former Jharkhand Chief Minister and the iconic tribal leader known as “Dishom Guru,” passed away at the age of 81 after a long illness, sparking heartfelt tributes from leaders across political affiliations.

His son and Jharkhand Chief Minister, Hemant Soren, confirmed the news. Revered across the state, Shibu Soren was a central figure in the tribal rights movement and instrumental in the formation of Jharkhand as a separate state.

Soren held the Chief Minister’s post three times, though his stints were cut short due to political upheavals. Nonetheless, his legacy as a grassroots leader and voice for the tribals remained firm.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his sorrow on social media, calling Soren a lifelong fighter for tribal rights whose humility and public connect made him beloved among the people.

BJP chief J.P. Nadda and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also paid homage, recognizing his relentless struggle for the welfare of tribal and backward communities.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge highlighted Soren’s efforts to secure tribal access to water, forest, and land, while former CM Champai Soren emphasized his leadership against exploitation and social evils.

From Babulal Marandi and Yogi Adityanath to Mayawati, Naveen Patnaik, Arvind Kejriwal, and Supriya Sule—leaders from all corners expressed admiration and grief.

Known for his earthy wisdom and emotional resonance with the indigenous population, Shibu Soren will be remembered as a towering champion of social justice.
