More than 72 pc voter turn out recorded for Littipara by-polls

Pakur/Dumka  Apr 9: Voting concluded peacefully for the Littipara Seat
(Reserved ST) of the Jharkhand Assembly with an average voter turn out
of 72 per cent being recorded during the polls.
Pakur DC cum District Electoral Officer A Muthu Kumar said that at
the end of the stipulated time frame of 1500hrs 72.11 pc people out of
an eligible 1,90,156 voters cast their votes across 272 polling
booths.  The voter turnout in Gopikandar block was 74 pc while that in
Amrapap 77.8 pc, Littipara Block 68 pc and in Hiranpur 71.55 pc.

Rahul Kumar Sinha and SP Mayur Patel themselves monitored the polling
process to ensure that voting concluded peacefully as Littipara
constituency is made of Littipara, Amrapara and Hiranpur blocks of
Pakur district and Gopikandar block falls in Dumka district
Deputy Director IPRD Santhal Pargana Ajay Nath Jha said as the
elctions commence reports regarding non functioning of evms and VVPAT
machines was received which was immediately corrected by the experts.
He said that a total 19 evms and 10 VVPAT machines were changed during
the polls.
Despite the area falling under Maoists influence a huge turnout of
the voters was itnessed outside
the polling stations since the early morning.
A large number of women voters and first time voters were seen
standing in the que to cast their votes. In the previous elections a
voter turn out of 75.96 pc was recorded. In wake of the by-polls a
large number of security personnel were posted at the pooling booths.
A total of 10 candidates are in the fray for the seat prominent
being the Hemlal Murmu of the BJP and the Simon Marandi of the JMM.
The counting of votes would be taken up on April 13.
The by-poll was necessitated following the death of JMM MLA Anil
Murmu on  January 17. For the last 40 years the seat has been with the
JMM.
