Mandar MLA convicted in DA case, gets three years of imprisonment

Ranchi: Former Minister and Mandar MLA Bandhu Tirkey was on Monday convicted in a disproportionate asset case and was awarded three years of imprisonment.

The court of special CBI judge PK Sharma also imposed a fine of Rs 3 lakh on the MLA. Failing to pay the fine the MLA will have to undergo further imprisonment of 6 more months.

The working president of Jharkhand Congress has been held guilty in DA case worth Rs 6,28,698 lakh. A fir against Tirkey was registered on August 11, 2010 and on December 12, 2018 he was caught from his house located at Banhora. He was in jail for 40 days after which he was granted bail by the High Court.

In the case charges were framed on January 16, 2019. A total of 21 witnesses had disposed in the case including the IO of the case PK Panigrahi and the than Ranchi DC Rajeev Arun Ekka. The arguments had been presented in the case before the CBI court between February 24, 2019 and March 16, 2019.

The CBI Delhi in its closure report in 2013 had said that the amount of DA case was very less which was not fir for running a case against him. However the special CBI judge had set aside the closure report. The court had said that the accused has 30 percent more income than the known sources therefore it was fit for trial.
