Mumbai- Actress Karisma Kapoor fondly recalled a childhood memory of watching her uncle, superstar Rishi Kapoor, perform the iconic song “Dafli Wale” on the big screen, saying the moment continues to evoke deep emotion for her.
Sharing her recollection, Karisma said she had watched the song multiple times at Metro Cinema during her childhood and still feels a strong emotional connection to it whenever she sees it today.
“Yeh song maine bachpan mein Metro Cinema mein jaake bohot baar dekha hai. I do feel emotional as Chintu Uncle ki yaad aati hai jab yeh song dekhti hoon aur woh kaise dafli bajate hain is song mein,” she said, referring affectionately to Rishi Kapoor, who was popularly called “Chintu”.
(Translation: I watched this song many times at Metro Cinema as a child. I feel emotional because it reminds me of Chintu uncle and the way he plays the dafli in it.)
The actress is currently seen as a judge on the dance reality show India’s Best Dancer, where the discussion around the classic track emerged after contestant Geetanjali performed on the 1979 hit “Dafli Wale” from the film Sargam.
Her co-judge, actor Jaaved Jaaferi, also expressed admiration for Rishi Kapoor’s performance, noting his effortless screen presence and his ability to convincingly portray musical performances.
“Main Rishi sahab ka bohot bada fan raha hoon… woh aapko convince kar dete hain ki woh sach mein dafli baja sakte hain,” he said.
The song “Dafli Wale Dafli Baja” from Sargam starred Rishi Kapoor and Jaya Prada. It was sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammed Rafi, with music composed by Laxmikant–Pyarelal and lyrics by Anand Bakshi, and remains one of Bollywood’s most enduring musical classics.
