Ranchi: The ruling and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress alliance retained both assembly seats in the state assembly by-poll on Tuesday.
JMM candidate Basant Soren won the Dumka assembly seat. He defeated BJP candidate and former Minister Louis Marandi over 6000 votes. Basant Soren secured 79964 votes and Louis Marandi got 73524 votes.
Basant Soren is the brother of Chief Minister Hemant Soren and son of JMM president Shibu Soren. Hemant sister-in-law Sita Soren is also a legislator from the Jama assembly seat.
The Dumka assembly seat fell vacant after Chief Minister vacated it after winning it general assembly poll in 2019. Hemant Soren had fought the 2019 assembly poll from Dumka and Barhet and he had won from both seats. Congress retained the Bermo assembly seat.
Kumar Jaimangal of Congress defeated BJP candidate Yogeshwar Mahto ‘ Batul’ over 14000 votes.
Jaimangal secured 92751 votes and BJP candidates got 78528 votes.
Bermo seat fell vacant after Congress legislator Rajendra Singh. Jaimagal is son of Rajendra Singh.
