Dumka/Ranchi: A married girl who had been set on fire by a jilted lover in Dumka died while being treated at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences at the state capital of Ranchi. The culprit Rajesh Raut wanted to marry the deceased Maruti Kumari and she had rejected his advances on several occasions after which he had threatened to pour kerosene on her and set her on fire.
The incident took place in Bhalki Bharatpur village under the Jarmundi Police Station area of Dumka district.
Late Thursday night, the culprit forcibly got inside the house of the girl and while she was sleeping he poured kerosene on her and set her on fire and she sustained serious burn injuries. After being provided with first aid at Dumka she was referred to RIMS Ranchi where on Friday she died in the course of treatment. The doctors treating the girl at the hospital said that she had sustained 90 percent
burn injuries.
In her statement before the authorities, the victim said that Rajesh had forcibly broken the door of her house and poured kerosene on her fire and set her on fire. The girl since her childhood had been staying with her maternal grandparents while the culprit belongs to Mahespur village under the Ramgarh Police Station area.
The victim also said that she had gotten married this year and Rajesh was asking her to marry him. She had said that three-four days earlier he had threatened her of setting her on fire.
Earlier after receiving information, senior officials of the district administration had reached the spot including SDPO and DSP had reached the village and took the statement of the victim.
Taking serious note of the incident the district administration made arrangements to sent the victim to Ranchi for treatment and also gave Rs 1 lakh as immediate financial assistance to the family.
Police said that the girl knew the culprit since 2021. In the last one and half month, this is a second incident when a had girl died after her jilted lover had poured kerosene on her and set her on fire.
On August 23 the incident involving a minor hogged the national limelight when the culprit Shahrukh with his associate had set the girl on fire. She too had died in RIMS after battling for life for five days.
