Ranchi: Two cyclists of Jharkhand State Sports Promotion Society won gold medals in the 43rd Senior and 30th Junior Asian Track Cycling Championships held in New Delhi from 21 to 26 February 2024.
Sabina Kumari won the gold medal in the women’s team sprint event, while Narayan Mahato won the silver medal in the boys sprint category. These two winners, Narayan Mahato and Sabina Kumari will represent Jharkhand as well as India in the upcoming World Championship to be held in China in August 2024.
JSSPS which is being jointly run by Central Coalfields Limited and Jharkhand State Government with the objective to encourage the sports talent among budding players across the state. Altogether 42 cyclist riders including 03 from Jharkhand, 2 from JSSPS and 1 from Lohardaga from India are participating in this international event. However, 600 players from 18 countries are participating in various events in this competition.
On the first day of the competition, Narayan Mahato and Sabina Kumari performed outstandingly and won medals for JSSPS. Narayan Mahato and Sabina Kumari thanked the CCL management and Jharkhand Govt. for supporting them and fulfilling their childhood dream. Altogether 380 J.S.S.P.S cadets are undergoing training at Sports Academy, Khelgoan, Ranchi. These cadets are provided free residential training under the supervision of professional coaches.
