Jamshedpur: The East Singhbhum police have suspended three personnel for alleged negligence in connection with the sensational stabbing incident outside the Double Down (DD) Club, a night bar in Bistupur, after the victim, Himanshu Singh, succumbed to his injuries, sparking widespread outrage and protests across the city.
Senior Superintendent of Police Piyush Pandey ordered the immediate suspension of Assistant Sub-Inspectors Ratan Kumar Das and Rajesh Kumar Ranjan, along with constable Manoj Kumar. All three were part of the patrol team that responded to the incident on Saturday night.
According to preliminary findings, the policemen allegedly failed to discharge their duties appropriately while handling the situation. The disciplinary action has been initiated to ensure a fair and transparent investigation into the case.
The SSP said the department is treating the incident with utmost seriousness and remains committed to conducting an impartial, professional and unbiased probe. He reiterated that the police have a zero-tolerance policy towards negligence and would not hesitate to take action wherever lapses in duty are found.
He further stated that if the ongoing inquiry establishes negligence or involvement of any other police personnel, strict departmental action will be taken in accordance with the rules. Emphasising accountability, he said no lapse, regardless of rank, would be overlooked.
The suspension of the three policemen is being seen as a strong message from the district police leadership that negligence in handling sensitive criminal cases will invite prompt action. Officials said further departmental and legal action would be decided after the inquiry report is submitted.
The case took a tragic turn on Monday evening when Himanshu Singh, who had sustained critical injuries in the stabbing outside the night bar, died during treatment at Tata Main Hospital.
Following his death, family members, relatives and local residents staged a late-night protest by blocking the Bistupur roundabout, demanding the immediate arrest of all those involved and stringent punishment for the accused.
The protest continued for several hours before senior police officials assured the agitating family that strict action would be taken against everyone found responsible.
Meanwhile, the Bistupur Police have registered an FIR against 10 named accused, including BJP leader and bar operator Neeraj Singh, in connection with the murder case.
The complaint was lodged by Arvind Singh, a resident of Hari Om Nagar in Adityapur.
