Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday paid heartfelt tributes to the immortal heroes of the Hul Rebellion, martyrs Sidho and Kanhu, on the occasion of Hul Diwas.
The Chief Minister, accompanied by MLA Kalpana Soren, visited Sidho-Kanhu Park in Morabadi, Ranchi, where they offered floral tributes at the statue of the legendary freedom fighters.
Addressing the gathering, Hemant Soren described Hul Diwas as a historic occasion that symbolises the powerful uprising against oppression and exploitation.
He said that at a time when people had no way to free themselves from exploitation, brave members of the tribal community rose in resistance. Without worrying about the consequences, the immortal revolutionaries Sidho, Kanhu, Chand, Bhairav, and the courageous sisters Phulo and Jhano sounded the bugle of revolt against the injustice inflicted on the people of the country.
The Chief Minister said that even today, revolutions and people’s movements often begin as resistance against the exploitation of weaker sections of society. He added that the people of Jharkhand and the nation take immense pride in these brave sons and daughters, whose sacrifices continue to inspire generations.
He said it is because of such fearless revolutionaries that Jharkhand is proudly known as the land of heroes. The state observes several occasions to remember its great personalities and renew its commitment to follow their ideals.
Emphasising the enduring spirit of revolution, Hemant Soren said that the flame of a people’s movement can never be extinguished. He noted that the spark of revolution continues to burn forever and cited the eternal flames at memorials such as Raj Ghat and India Gate as symbols of the nation’s lasting respect for its martyrs.
He said the glorious history of this sacred land of brave warriors will forever remain etched in golden letters.
