IAS Chhavi Ranjan did not get bail

Ranchi: Jharkhand High Court on Wednesday denied bail to IAS Chhavi Ranjan. The default bail plea of Chhavi Ranjan was heard in the court of Justice SK Dwivedi in Jharkhand High Court. After the hearing, the court rejected the petition. In fact, the order of the ED court was challenged in the High Court on the basis of Section 167 of the CrPC. The bail petition was heard in the court of Justice SK Dwivedi in Jharkhand High Court.

During the hearing, the court said in its remarks that the probe has been completed by the ED. The probe was completed in good time after which the charge sheet has been filed. In such a situation, the case of default bail does not arise. Senior advocate Anil Kumar appeared on behalf of  ED.

In fact, former Deputy Commissioner of Ranchi and suspended IAS officer Chhavi Ranjan is in jail for the last five months in the case of illegal purchase and sale of 4.55 acres of army-occupied land in Ranchi. He first filed a petition for bail in the ED court. This petition was rejected. After this he challenged this petition in the High Court. He filed a default bail petition. In which he had challenged in the High Court the rejection of the petition under Section 167 of CrPC by the ED Court.

Chhavi Ranjan had made the basis for granting bail on the ground of error in the charge sheet filed by ED in the lower court and the charge sheet not being filed within the stipulated time. IAS Chhavi Ranjan has been arrested by ED in the Army Land Scam case in Ranchi. During its investigation, ED has found facts related to Chhavi Ranjan’s cordial relations with land document fraudsters including Prem Prakash, identified as power broker, and providing help to them.

During interrogation on May 4, Chhavi Ranjan had tried to prove himself innocent. During this time he kept putting all the blame on his subordinate employees. At the same time, Chhavi Ranjan also denied meeting Prem Prakash. However, Chhavi Ranjan got entangled in the questions asked after showing him the documents related to the land scam.
