Historic surrender: Nine JJMP cadres give up arms in Jharkhand

Latehar – Nine militants of the outlawed Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP) surrendered to police and paramilitary forces in Latehar on Monday, handing over a large cache of arms and ammunition, including five AK-47 rifles.

The surrender is unprecedented in scale, with four sub-zonal commanders — each carrying a Rs 5 lakh bounty — and another with a Rs 3 lakh reward among those who laid down arms. Officials said this collective surrender has crippled JJMP’s organisational structure in the district.

Senior leaders among the surrendering militants included zonal commander Ravindra Yadav, who alone gave up two AK-47s, three rifles, and 1,241 live cartridges. Other commanders, including Akhilesh Ravindra Yadav, Baldev Ganjhu, Mukesh Ram Yadav, Pawan alias Ram Prasad, Shravan Singh, and Mukesh Ganjhu, surrendered with additional weapons and ammunition.

Police attributed the development to sustained anti-Maoist operations and the state’s rehabilitation policy. The surrender event at Latehar Police Headquarters was attended by CRPF and state police officials.

Authorities said the surrender builds on a series of recent setbacks for JJMP, including the killing of its senior leaders in encounters and arrests of top cadres since January 2025.
