High Court seeks LCR from civil court in Bandhu Turkey case

Ranchi: In the case of acquiring disproportionate assets against former minister Bandhu Tirkey a criminal appeal was filed against him in the High Court over which hearing took place in the court of Justice Navneet Kumar of Jharkhand High Court. 

While hearing the case, Justice Navneet Kumar has sought the original record of the case related to Bandhu Tirkey from the lower court. The next hearing will be held after receiving the original report.

The court has fixed May 9 as the next date of hearing. On March 28, 2022, a hearing was held against the then Mandar MLA Bandhu Tirkey in the court of Special CBI Judge PK Sharma in the matter of earning disproportionate assets.

After the hearing, the court had imposed a sentence of three years and a fine of three lakh rupees on Bandhu Tirkey. For not paying the fine amount, the court had made a provision for additional punishment of 6 months on Tirkey. 

Bandhu Tirkey was the education minister during the tenure of former chief minister Madhu Koda. Then he was accused of acquiring disproportionate assets worth Rs 6 lakh 28 thousand 698.

Earlier, a case was registered in the Anti- Corruption Bureau on the complaint of a social worker in this matter. Then in 2010, CBI registered a case under case number RC-5A/10 in a disproportionate assets case. In the special CBI court inthe case, 21 witnesses from the prosecution side and eight from the defense side were produced.
