Ranchi: The High Court recently heard a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed regarding the prevention of noise pollution during festivals. During the hearing, the court expressed its displeasure over the state government’s failure to provide information on measures taken to control noise pollution in districts other than Ranchi.
The bench, headed by Chief Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao, pointed out that the government had only filed an affidavit regarding the actions taken in Ranchi district. The court was disappointed by the lack of similar affidavits from other districts.
The court verbally remarked that it seemed there had been no concrete measures taken in other districts to curb noise pollution during festivals, as directed by the court. The lack of compliance with the court’s earlier order was noted with concern.
The court has given the state government time until May 6, 2025, to submit details of the steps taken to control noise pollution during festivals across all districts. The petition was represented by advocate Shubham Kataruka on behalf of the petitioner.
