Ranchi: Jharkhand Governor Draupadi Murmu on Monday asked DGP MV Rao to make sure that all the culprits of the Dumka gangrape are arrested as soon as possible.
Raj Bhawan sources said that during the meeting with the DGP the governor expressed her concern over the rising incidents of rape in the state. She said that a fear-free environment should be created in the state so that people can feel safe. She also inquired into the progress of the probe in connection with the gang rape.
The DGP informed the Governor that one of the accused has been arrested so far and efforts were on to identify and nab the other culprits. The Governor on her part asked him to ensure speedy action not only in the Dumka case but also in other similar cases. On December 8 a woman who was returning after visiting a local market with her husband was gang raped by 17 youths.
