CM directs officials to speed up work under ‘Ghar Ghar Nal’ scheme

Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday directed the officials to speed up work under the ‘Ghar Ghar Nal’  Scheme which is part of rural drinking water supply yojana so that water can reach in 54 lakh homes in a time bound manner.

Reviewing the functioning of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department he said that if the scheme will not be implemented in a time bound manner then many families will be not able to take its benefits therefore apart from focus on time the quality in completion of the project should be also taken care off.

He said that under the minor drinking water supply scheme in panchayats water is being provided to the villagers through solar power however the people should be also made aware about its upkeep. He suggested increasing the size of recharge pit in the rural areas as it was important to increase the underground water levels.

The Chief Minister said that videos should be shared as to whether the primitive tribes living in Dumka, Sahebganj and other areas were getting drinking water or not and further directed to complete the remaining 260 projects. He said that incase of inter-departmental problems in completion of the drinking water supply scheme a meeting should be called at the level of the Chief Secretary and all such problems should be solved.

Hemant Soren asked the officials to undertake a survey of the toilets which have been constructed under the Swach Bharat Mission and find out whether the beneficiaries are using it or not, further it should be also verified as to whether these toilets have water connections or not.

He suggested that focus should be also adopted on the construction of community toilets for which consent of villagers should be taken and upkeep of such toilets can be maintained through Mnrega.

Those present in the meeting included Drinking Water Minister Mithlesh Thakur, Chief Secretary Sukhdeo Singh and other officials.
