Ranchi: A major gas leak triggered panic in Nivaranpur area when a gas pipeline of GAIL India was damaged during repair work under a flyover. The work was being carried out by L&T company. As soon as the pipeline burst, gas started leaking rapidly, spreading fear among local residents.
Sensing the seriousness of the situation, the administration immediately evacuated nearby houses and shops. Fire brigade vehicles rushed to the spot, but it took about two hours for GAIL’s technical team to arrive. Once on site, the team managed to shut down the pipeline and began repair work.
Residents said the pungent smell of gas made it difficult to breathe, forcing people to run out of their homes. The administration has now cordoned off the entire area and ordered an investigation into the incident. Preparations are underway to seek explanations from both L&T and GAIL officials regarding the lapse.
