Friend Turns Killer: Jharkhand Police Crack Student Murder Case Over Ransom

Bokaro – In a horrifying case from Bokaro Steel City, 19-year-old Devashish Kumar, a college student, was abducted and murdered by his own friend, Aman Kumar Vats, after a failed attempt to extract ransom from his family.

Police arrested Aman and revealed that Devashish was buried in the yard of a government quarter in Gaiman Colony. The crime took place after Aman and his accomplices demanded Rs 25 lakh, but upon failing to get the amount, Aman killed him by strangling and buried the body.

Devashish had just completed his Class 12 Science exams. On June 10, he received a call from Aman and never returned home. His worried mother lodged a missing report the next day. Later, a disturbing ransom video was sent from his phone to his cousin.

Using technical surveillance, police tracked Aman, who confessed to the crime. He admitted he needed money, was involved in cybercrimes, and planned the kidnapping to make quick money. When the plan collapsed, he chose to kill Devashish.

Evidence recovered includes the tool used for digging, mobile phones, a SIM card, memory card, liquor bottle, and the victim’s clothing.
