Election Commission to contact migrant labourers for voting

Ranchi: The Election Commission will contact the migrant labourers of Jharkhand and motivate them to vote. Regarding this, Chief Electoral Officer K Ravi Kumar, after holding a meeting with the Labour Department in the Election Commission office, directed to provide the data of migrant labourers to the Commission as soon as possible.

The Labour Department informed in the meeting that they have data of 1 lakh 70 thousand migrant labourers. They also have their mobile numbers. The Chief Electoral Officer said that the migrant labourers will be motivated to participate in the election festival and vote by sending bulk messages to their mobile numbers.

On the other hand, the Chief Electoral Officer asked the Home Department officials present in the meeting to contact various security agencies and motivate their employees to vote. Home Department officials said that they have data of 416 security agencies. They will send letters through speed post to these agencies informing them about the intention of the Commission and asking them to motivate the migrant workers working there to vote.

The Chief Electoral Officer asked the officials to motivate the security agencies to participate in the voting by giving paid leave to the employees under the RP Act.
