Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren has rejected the proposal of the Forest Department in which it was requested to regularize the sawmills operating within a radius of 5 km from the forest area before 1996 in the state. In this sequence, the Chief Minister has ordered the Forest Department to ensure the removal of all sawmills falling within a radius of five kilometers from the forest area at the earliest.
The far-reaching impact of this decision of the Chief Minister will be visible on the forests and environment of Jharkhand state in the coming days. This will check the illegal felling of wood in the forests. Also, wild fauna forests and vegetation will be protected.
The Forest Department has seized a huge quantity of teak wood by raiding four illegally operated sawmills located in the Sarath and Sarwan blocks of the Deoghar district. Also, these sawmills have been completely demolished by the forest department
