CBI raids 42 locations, arrests 5 for selling SIM cards to cybercriminals

Ranchi: The CBI (Delhi) has conducted raids on 42 locations of individuals involved in selling SIM cards to cybercriminals. These raids took place across eight states, and five people were arrested during the operation. These individuals were found to have sold SIM cards illegally to cybercriminals.

On May 10, as part of its ongoing special operation against cybercrime, the CBI raided locations in Bihar, Bengal, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu where SIM cards were being sold. During the raids, documents related to the irregularities in SIM card sales, mobile phones, and other electronic devices were seized. In addition, KYC-related documents and paperwork linking intermediaries involved in selling SIM cards to cybercriminals were also confiscated.

The CBI arrested five individuals during the operation, all of whom were involved in selling SIM cards in violation of KYC regulations. The investigation revealed that the cybercriminals had used these illegally acquired SIM cards for various fraudulent activities, including digital frauds, fake job advertisements, and other forms of scams.
