Ranchi: The Jharkhand Government on Thursday gave its green signal to conduct the three-tier panchayat elections in the state.
A decision in this regard was taken in the meeting of the state cabinet which was chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren at the project building. In the meeting, a total of 35 proposals were approved.
Though dates for the panchayat polls have not been declared it is being speculated that the polls will be held after the end of matric and intermediate exams. Briefing the press after the end of the meeting Cabinet Secretary Vandana Dadel said that the dates for the polls will be announced later. She said that the proposal will now be sent to the Governor and State Election Commission.
Since the creation of the Jharkhand panchayat elections has been held twice in the state. The first time it was held was in December 2010 and later in December 2015 however due to pandemics the elections could not be held in December 2020. As the elections got deferred the state government gave an extension of six months to all the panchayat representatives and as the situation failed to approve the extension was given till the time the elections are announced.
Among the other key decisions, a change has been made in the subsidy slab for power consumers after which consumers who will be consuming more than 400 units of power they will not be provided the subsidy
