Ranchi: NDA’s Presidential Candidate Draupadi Murmu struck an emotional note during her visit to Jharkhand on Monday where she interacted with the MLAs and MPs of NDA and said that her forefathers were residents of Jharkhand only. Recalling her personal association with the state she said that her grandfather lived here only and ‘blood of Jharkhand flew in her veins’. She said that she was left surprised after it was brought to her knowledge that she had been made the candidate for the post of President.
Further, she pointed that while speaking with Prime Minister Modi she said that it was a big responsibility and how she was going to do their work over which he said that the Constitution of the country will give her the strength to fulfill her responsibility. She said that the Prime Minister said that in the manner in which she had done a wonderful job while handling the affairs of the state she will no doubt do a similar job while working at the post of the President.
After the meeting, she also met with school children inside the premises of the hotel where the meeting was being held and accepted a painting made by them.
Later she called upon JMM supremo and Rajya Sabha MP Shibu Soren during which Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren was also present and sought their support for her candidature. Earlier in the day through a tweet, the Chief Minister had extended her warm welcome upon her arrival to the state.
The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha which is part of the UPA has still not declared its support for any of the two candidates including Draupadi Murmu and Yashwant Sinha who are battling it out for the post of President.
Earlier upon her arrival at the airport, she was given a grand traditional welcome by the members of BJP’s ST Morcha. All the senior leaders of the state BJP including State President Deepak Prakash, Union Minister Arjun Munda, former Chief Minister Raghubar Das and leader of the legislature wing of BJP Babulal Marandi were present to receive her. In the meeting apart from senior leaders of the BJP, MPs and MLA’s, AJSU Supremo Sudesh Mahto along with party MLA Lambodar Mahto, Independent MLA Amit Yadav and others were present.
As far as the number of games are concerned the NDA has 16 MPs including 15 from BJP and One from AJSU while the number of MLAs was at 28 including 26 of BJP and 2 of AJSU. The value of one vote of an MLA of Jharkhand is 176 while that of MP is 700 therefore the overall number reaches to 16,218. Draupadi Murmu was appointed as the ninth Governor of Jharkhand on May 18, 2015 and she remained on her post till July 12, 2021.
