Banks to remain close for next for days from Saturday onwards

Ranchi: Public sector banks across the state will remain closed for the next four days from Saturday onwards.

Banks will remain closed on Saturday, March 13 for being the second Saturday of the month and public holiday on account of Sunday which is March 14 while on March 15 and 16 the bank unions have called for a strike protesting against privatization of the public sector banks.

The call for this strike has been given by the United Forum of Bank Unions. Joint convener of the outfit ML Singh said that the government is planning to sell the public sector banks against which the all India strike has been called on March 15 and 16. He said that in the strike officials and staff both will be participating.

Singh claimed that in the name of reforms in the banking sector a conspiracy has been going on for the last three decades for privatizing the public sector banks. He alleged that the present government under the pressure from International Monetary Fund and World Bank is rapidly executing the plans of privatization without going through the various aspects of its privatisation.

The officials and staff of rural banks have also extended their support to the strike.
