21 killed in separate accidents on New Year’s Day

Ranchi: The first day of the year 2025 turned tragic for many in Jharkhand as 21 people lost their lives in various road and other accidents. More than 10 people were injured in the incidents. The highest number of deaths occurred in Hazaribagh, where five people drowned in a well. Other districts, including Ranchi, Khunti, Gumla, Jamshedpur, and Latehar, also witnessed multiple fatalities.

In Hazaribagh’s Charhi area, a heart-wrenching incident occurred where five people drowned in a well. The bodies were sent for post-mortem at Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hospital. The entire village is mourning the loss of these lives. In Dhanbad city, a young man tragically fell into a well near Manaitand Chhath pond under the Dhanwar police station and died on the night of January 1.

In Latehar’s Manika police station area, near Degree College, three young men died in a horrific road accident when a motorcycle collided head-on with a Bolero vehicle. Meanwhile, in Khunti district, an 80-year-old man was crushed by an elephant, while two young men also died in a separate road accident on the first day of the year. Another individual sustained serious injuries in the same incident.

Gumla district reported the deaths of three motorcyclists in road accidents, while in Jamshedpur, three friends heading out for a New Year’s party met with a tragic accident in Telco, where two of them died on the spot. In Deoghar’s Nagar police station area, two young men lost their lives in a road accident near Baramsiya Parmeshwar Dayal Road.

In Ranchi’s Jagannathpur police station area, bike rider Chandrashekhar Mahato died in a road accident near Shaheed Maidan. In Ramgarh, a person was killed after being hit by a vehicle near Goverdaha Chowk on NH-33. These incidents have cast a shadow over the start of the new year, leaving many families devastated by the sudden loss of their loved ones.
