CM directs officials to ensure uninterrupted and quality power to people

Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday chaired a review meeting of the power department during which he directed the officials to ensure quality and uninterrupted power supply to the people.

He said that power has become a part of the daily life of the people and with the passage of time the demand of electricity will further increase therefore keeping in mind the requirements of the future there was a need to take concrete steps to increase power production. He stressed on the need to take proper measures to make the state become self-sufficient in the areas of power prod.

The Chief Minister said that time had come when the state should focus on renewable sources of energy including solar power and hydropower. He asked the officials to make a survey of water bodies for the development of hydel projects.

The Chief Minister said that there was tremendous opportunity in the state in the area of solar power and suggested that land banks should be set up for solar plants. He asked the officials to prepare details regarding the capacity of solar power generation in the state and requirement of land. He said that the government was focused to increase solar power plants installation.

The Chief Minister expressed his concern over the rising revenue deficit in sector of power production and asked the department to overcome it to reduce the gap. The officials of the department that during the year 2020-21 the loss in power sector was at Rs 2480 crore which was mainly due to lack of bill collection during Corona. The officials said that plans are on to make power department profit making so that only Jharkhand does not only becomes surplus in power production but will be also able to make profit.
